Roots

The roots run down deep into my soil
Digging into my soul just like a coil
Just like the one that gave me my name
The roots run down just same
Once before I tried to escape
To see how much them roots could take
But the roots were strong
They kept me from falling

With a love so deep that it floods the mountains
With a love so deep that it floods the mountains

Runs through the veins of every age
The single word called heritage
Embedded in me from the ones before
Flows down the river and into the shore
Although the currents will be rough at times
In the end it will be just fine
‘cause that river’s strong
It kept me from falling

With a love so deep that it floods the mountains
With a love so deep that it floods the mountains

Don’t cut down the tree or dam up the water
Or you’ll lose sight and start to falter
Without the warmth of the fire
Might as well pack it up and retire
Don’t take for granted those close to your heart
You got to keep ‘em close right from the start
‘cause you know they’re strong
They kept you from falling

With a love so deep that it floods the mountains
With a love so deep that it floods the mountains
With a love so deep that it floods the mountains
With a love so deep that it floods the mountains
